Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
