Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed gambling on various card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really competitive in these card games while playing his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and moved to New York City to compete in some serious chess. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he played extensive hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and focus even more on poker.

The actual advancement in his game happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently challenge one another. Howard was able to access some of the foremost minds in chess. Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie to head out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker world today. Howard headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
