NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
