Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he enjoyed taking part in different card games when he was young. He found himself getting very aggressive in these card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he played extensive hours and lose most times. He earned some extra money by being an assistant for the poker players. He believed he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus attention more on the game.
The real improvement in his skills happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently compete against one another. He was able to access some of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard would hone his cunning thinking skills. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL texas hold’em.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a superb student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the strongest female players the poker world ever. Howard moved to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
