Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
