Pai Gow uses 53 cards; the normal 52-card basic deck and a single joker. The gambler is assigned 7 cards faces showing and the croupier is given seven cards faces hidden.
A 5 card hand and one two card hand need to be put together from the seven cards dealt, the 5 card hand has to be better than the two card hand. To win, a player needs both of his hand values to be larger than the dealer’s.
