Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Posted in Poker on 12/14/2009 09:22 am by RudyGus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the closing table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors in the world. While participating in online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
